The Lover’s Rendezvous

When walking past the 748 Broadway building, in Dunedin -next to Rosie’s Cafe– look up!

A woman is climbing out of her bedroom window to elope with her lover,  who is holding a bouquet of red flowers for her.

She is  made of steel and fiberglass and her jacket and hat are stained glass mosaic.   The flowers and her skirt are metal.  He, of course, is also a sculpture.

If you wonder where they are going, why they have to escape, and whether they will be happy forever after it means that The Lover’s Rendezvous is fulfilling its goal, which was to tell a story in sculpture.

She’s almost ready to elope.

So, when passing, enjoy the view. Know that pretty as it is, it gave me a couple of good finger wounds.

The Lover’s Rendezvous is just an example of Dunedin’s art scene. Here is a story on the subject that appeared in the Tampa Bay Times.
